Here’s a roundup of media reaction to antiwar GOP candidate Ron Paul’s feat Monday of raising $4.2 or $4.3 million in a single day Monday:
Start with WAPO media reporter Howard Kurtz’s column, in which he observes: “What no news organization will ask, of course, is: How on earth did we miss the significance of the Paul movement?”
Politico’s Jonathan Martin sees Paul as a human Rohrschach test in whom alienated voters can see anything they choose. National Review’s David Frum is disconcerted that his preference, Giuliani, could be hurt and resorts to the inaccurate smear, describing Ron as having “a Michael Moore view of the world.” More like a polar opposite, David.
Andrew Sullivan sees Paul’s rise as a reflection of “conservatives who despise the big-spending, uncecked executive, busy-body, Christianist wing of the GOP.” CBN’s David Brody is dismissive, but RealClearPolitics’ Steven Stark thinks it could set him up for a third-party run. Meanwhile PowerLine’s Paul Mirengoff scoffs and sees Paul only in terms of his own stereotypes. Conservative Captain Ed thinks Ron has catalyzed a constituency Republicans ignore at their peril.
On the left, Daily Kos is chagrined that a small-government movement has generated such grassroots enthiusiasm but on balance pleased. At Salon, Glenn Greenwald is seriously impressed.

It’s good to see the OC Register keeping an eye on the cutting edge of politics (the freedom movement and the rise of the Ron Paul candidacy). Thank you Mr. Block for covering these stories.
